  • Please schedule your unit’s Friends of Scouting (FOS) presentation with Mary Griffin grapevine@windstream.net ASAP. For those new to unit leadership positions, remember that every unit is expected to host this annual Council-wide presentation—but the presenter provides all the materials as well as the speaker.

  • The District Eagle and Volunteer Appreciation Dinner will be on Feb. 9. Ninety people have registered to attend! lucy.grist@scouting.org

  • Recharter time is here! Contact Rod Herbig, our District Commissioner: roderickherbig1947@gmail.com if you need assistance. Don’t forget to have your Chartered Organization Head (pastor, fire chief, Lion’s Club president, etc.) sign the form. Turn in dates: Monday, Feb. 20th McDonald’s in Siler City (Chatham Folks), Tuesday Feb. 21 Tramway McDonald’s in Sanford (Lee Folks), and Wed, February 22, McDonald’s in Aberdeen (Moore Folks). All locations: 5pm – 8pm.

  • The Spring Training Blitz is Feb. 18. Registration and materials are available on the District website. Right now our district has 45 den leaders and 10 cubmasters and 7 Scoutmasters untrained. PLEASE contact your leaders personally and encourage them to attend in person or at least do the on-line version. Dave Williamson davidandjoyce2@gmail.com

  • There is a potential for an IOLS training Memorial Day Weekend (May 25) IF at least seven people sign up. Tell Dave now if you are interested, so the many arrangements for this complex event can be made in time. A BALOO training is also a possibility. Dave Williamson davidandjoyce2@gmail.com

  • Jim Phillips (Advancement) would like an assistant to help packs who need expertise with getting their advancements turned in. The District had several units who went more than three months without any advancement. jim1phillips@windstream.net

  • Kevin Kirkman reminded Scouts and Scouters that if they get a “Voice of the Scout” survey emailed to them that they have ten days to return it. He emphasized that BSA really does take the comments to heart and has used them to shape their procedures and policies. You can see the data at http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/Awards/JourneyToExcellence/vos_findings.aspx

  • Camp Cards were delivered to those who ordered them along with information about selling them. Lucy Grist lucy.grist@scouting.org

  • Several fliers went out to announce upcoming events. If you want your fundraiser or other announcement put in the unit mail boxes at Roundtable, please send your flier to Rod Herbig: roderickherbig1947@gmail.com AND to webmasters Mark Askins: mark@silly-bear.com or Phil Layton: prettymuchpointless@gmail.com.
