Dogwood District website: www.dogwoodbsa.org

Webmaster: Phil Layton akelapack73@gmail.com

Big thanks to Tyler Perkinson who is our acting D.E.  Contact him at 919-930-5265 or tyler.perkinson@scouting.org.
Tyler served the Three Rivers District briefly in the early 2000’s, and we appreciate him assisting us again.

  • Next Month’s Schedule: Potluck and Secret Santa at 6:30 PM at St. Luke UMC. (Meet in the Fellowship Hall.) Bring food to share and a fun gift ($10 or less). Please help set up at 6:00 pm or clean up. And bring scheduling specifics for next year, so we can get the District Calendar scheduling done more efficiently. Send dates to Kevin Kirkman

  • District Planning Meeting needs to be scheduled. The two choices so far are Thursday, January 4 (at Roundtable) or Saturday, January 6 in the morning. Be ready to give Kevin Kirkman a decision at the December Potluck.

  • Unitversity of Scouting is this weekend! More details at ocscouts.com

  • Pinewood Derby Workshop: sponsored by Southern Pines Ace Hardware, hosted by Pack 582 Saturday, December 2 at the store (215 Capital Drive, Whispering Pines). More info from Jay Bradley: jaybradley79@yahoo.com. One hour time slots available at www.signupgenius com. Volunteers needed to help sand/shape cars.

  • Training: be sure to check your training records, especially after online courses. Some are not “registering”. Also, if a group takes a course together on one screen, only the person who is registered on the device will get credit. BUT if you send the information to David Williamson davidandjoyce2@gmail.com, he can get your records updated. Don’t forget to see if your Woodbadge is listed.

  • Charles Davis brought a few specifics about girls in Scouting—namely that the new programs will begin in the fall of 2018 and will be at the direction of the Chartering Organizations.

  • Community Thanksgiving Service: at First Presbyterian Church (203 Hawkins Ave, Sanford) on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 7:00 pm. Bring canned food donations. Scouts (in uniform) will bring all the evening’s donations forward during the offering. Tamara Lewis tplewis@windstream.net

  • Recharter packets are available. You can’t update anything until Jan. 1, but you can get ready. Signatures from Chartered Organization Executives (pastor, president, chief, etc.) will be handled by the D.E. of one of the District Key Three.

Troop 941 presents its Merit Badge Mania January 12-13 2018. They really need counselors to sign up so they can have a broad offering for many Scouts. Contact Lisa Poland to volunteer: dlpoland5@gmail.com

  • There are training opportunities available on Jan. 12-13 including IOLS. Go to occoneechee.tentaroo and choose “Winter Camp” to find more details. Or contact Dave Williamson davidandjoyce2@gmail.com

  • Spring Camporee (Boy Scouts) has some conflicts. If we stay with the date of April 20-22 at Durant/Reeves, we conflict with OA. If we keep the date of April 13-15, we can’t get the camp. Ideas? Outside the box thinking? Contact Camping Chair Bill Owen: w.e.owen82@gmail.com

  • District Award Banquet is coming up on February 3. Nominations are due Dec. 15 to Laura Farrell laurafarrell81@gmail.com See forms and information on the District website.

  • Log Service hours and check training records (pretty please!) at my.scouting.org.
