  • The District Awards dinner in February was a huge success. Big thanks to Laura Farrell, the OA, and Lucy Grist for getting all the arrangements made. Please send any “Start, Stop, Continue” comments to Laura laurafarrell81@gmail.com. They are already putting plans in place for next year.

  • The OA reports that Joseph Cinammore received the prestigious Youth Award. Elections are underway, and crossover ceremonies are already booked and performed. The OA members also assisted with an ambitious workday at Durant working on the bleachers at the dance arbor.

  • Upcoming dates to put on the calendar:

  • Tiger Safari in Lee Count on May 13—all packs needed.

  • David Williamson mentioned that if you have flags ready to retire, the Jamie Bowles Funeral Home in Southern Pines would like to use them to drape over veterans’ coffins. davidandjoyce2@gmail.com

  • Jim Phillips jim1phillips@windstream.net reminds folks that Merit Badge Counselors must have their Registration Sheet and D76 course (Merit Badge Counselor Training) turned in by April (and have Youth Protection Training that is valid through May of the next year) or they will be dropped from the counselor list. Don McKenzie mcfoto@pinehurst.net has a great step by step document that gives all the details.

  • David Williamson reported that around 20 Scouters were trained in February at the Dogwood Training Blitz. Six were from our district. Our district is still way behind. Figure out what training your unit needs to be 100% and talk to Dave about how to arrange it. There are a couple new units coming on board in the district—we will need “veterans” to help us take the training to them.

  • Log Service hours and check training records (pretty please!) at my.scouting.org.
