  • Stephanie Larson has put together a notebook of fliers from all sorts of training events. It “lives” at Roundtable, but you can contact her if you need more

  • Two representatives from the National Athletic Village in Southern Pines gave a presentation about their new diverse sports complex which recently opened for business. Lots of activities including archery, obstacle courses, camping, sports fields, a skate park, and more. Contact Belinda at nav.belinda@gmailcom or go to

  • Bike Rodeo and Safety Day in Lee County is May 20 from 9:00 am until noon at Spring Lane Cinema. All local packs and troops and crews are asked to pitch in with activities, arranging community safety folks (fire, police, fish and wildlife officers, etc.) and publicity. The free event is aimed at girls and boys ages 4-12, both Scouts and non-Scouts. PLEASE help get the word out—there will soon be a flier on the District website that you can download. This event is designed to help units recruit new members. Bring a display, a table, and a smile! We are setting up a Google Hangout to help all the units coordinate efforst.   • The Spring Camporee April 7-9 at Camp Reeves will have a fishing theme. Registration is open online ($15.00 until April 6/$20.00 after that.) Camporee Chief is Bill

  • The Council Cub-O-Ree is April 28-30 at Camp Durant. Cost ranges from $10-$25 and registration closes on April 14. A flier is available on the District website.

  • Saturday, April 8 from 8:00-10:00 am, Pack 8-5 is having a pancake breakfast at the Church of the Latter Day Saints in Sanford. Tickets are $5.

  • Monday April 17 a unit (sorry, didn’t catch which one!) is having a fund raiser at Golden Corral from 4:00-9:00.

  • Saturday, May 6, Troop (and Pack?) 942 is having a BBQ plate sale at St. Luke UMC from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm. Plates are $8 and plain BBQ is $10/pound. Tickets need to be purchased by April 25 to guarantee sale.

  • Saturday, May 13, on of the units (sorry, didn’t catch which one!) is having a plate sale at Highway 55 Restaurant in Pittsboro. Tickets are $5.00.

  • Kevin Kirkman announced that Tour Permits are no longer required for any trips, although the planning steps should still be followed. Each Scout still needs a signed Activity Consent Form.

  • James Phillips announced that from now on, Council will only accept Advancement Reports that have been filed electronically. (Although you still have to bring the paper print out with all three signatures to the Scout Store to get awards.)

  • Camp Durant has an opening for Camp Ranger. Contact Henry Goodson for details.

  • There are a few openings for Jamboree. Contact Henry Goodson for details.

  • Upcoming dates to put on the calendar:

  • Tiger Safari in Lee Count on May 13—all packs needed.

  • There is an IOLS Training scheduled at Durant May 26-27

  • JOTA (Jamboree on the Air) will take place Oct 20-22 and plans are underway to make this an even bigger (overnight) experience. They are looking for anyone who might have connections with hot air ballooning. Debbie D’Auria
