  • Next Month’s Schedule: Roundtable and OA at St. Luke UMC, Sanford

  • Tiger Safari in Lee County at Kiwanis Children’s Park (101 Park Ave. Sanford) from 9:30-11:30 am on May 13—all packs needed. Aimed at rising first graders and their parents. Activities include 9 Square in the Air, Corn Hole, GAGA ball, and more. Lucy Grist

  • Bike Rodeo and Safety Day in Lee County is May 20 from 9:00 am until noon at Spring Lane Cinema. The free event is aimed at girls and boys ages 4-12, both Scouts and non-Scouts. There will be a bike maze, trail rides (Endor Iron Furnace Greenway Trail), bike displays and maintenance, helmet and safety checks. Community partners who will have displays include fire, police, a bike shop, and more. PLEASE help get the word out on your social media of choice—there is a flier on the District website that you can download. This event is designed to help units recruit new members. Bring a display, a table, and a smile! We are setting up a Google Hangout to help all the units coordinate efforst. Contact Tamara Lewis to get on the list!

  • May 25 at 6:00 pm there will be a Growing Future Leaders dinner at the Little River Golf and Resort (500 Little River Farm Blvd. Carthage). Speakers will be MB (R) (Deputy Chief of Staff) and Phillip McGhee and COL Carl Kelly (Special Forces), both Eagle Scouts. highlighting the connections between military personnel and Scouting. “There is no cost to attend the dinner; however, there will be an opportunity to invest in the local Boy Scout program.” Please respond by May 20.   • As of June 5, new Scouts/leaders will be able to register and pay online. Paper aps will still be accepted as well.

  • Cub Scout Day Camp (Dogwood North) from June 19-23 is open for registration. The theme is North Carolina and will include athletes, trains, planes, and automobiles, and all the usual great activities. Friday will be swim day. Mary Griffin:

  • There is an IOLS Training scheduled at Durant May 26-27

  • Saturday, May 6, Troop (and Pack?) 942 is having a BBQ plate sale at St. Luke UMC from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm. Plates are $8 and plain BBQ is $10/pound. Tickets need to be purchased by April 25 to guarantee sale.

  • Saturday, May 13, on of the units (sorry, didn’t catch which one!) is having a Plate Sale at Highway 55 Restaurant in Pittsboro. Tickets are $5.00.

  • There are a few openings for Jamboree. Contact Henry Goodson for details.

  • Upcoming dates to put on the calendar:

  • JOTA (Jamboree on the Air) will take place Oct 20-22 and plans are underway to make this an even bigger (overnight) experience. They are looking for anyone who might have connections with hot air ballooning. Debbie D’Auria
