Event Name: 20 miles in 24 hours Hike
Location: Uwharrie Trail, Montgomery County, NC
Dates: 26-28, October 2018
Description: Dogwood District will host a ‘20 miles in 24 hours Hike” along the Uwharrie Trail in Montgomery County, NC. The Uwharrie Trail is approximately 20 miles long between the north and south terminus trail heads. The purpose of this event is to provide an organized venue for Troops/Crews to fulfill Requirement # 5 of the Hiking Merit Badge. Dogwood District will organize the event. Troops and Crews will conduct the hike under internal unit leadership.
Conduct of the hike: Dogwood District will schedule Scout units starting times and locations. Scout units will start at the northern trail head along NC State route 1306 and move south to the trailhead along US Hwy 24. Depending on the number of units signing up, Scout units will also be scheduled to start the hike at the southern trail head and move north to the northern trail head. IAW Requirement # 5 of the hiking Merit Badge, Scout units will have 24 hours to complete the 20 mile hike. All Units must complete the hike by Noon on Sunday, 28 Oct
Hiking Merit Badge Requirement # 5: Take a hike for 20 continuous miles in one day following a hike plan you have prepared. You may stop for as many short rest periods as needed as well as one meal, but not for an extended period (example overnight).
