    • Thursday, November 15 the Dogwood District will host an Open House at the McDonald House (207 McReynolds Street in Carthage) at 6:30 pm. Refreshments will be served and committees will explain what they do to help the District. This meeting is intended to give information to people so they can join the District Committee. Please invite candidates (adults) from your unit! . Lucy Grist

    • Recharter packets are available. Sign yours out with Rod Herbig, our District And don’t forget to start getting Youth Protection training updated for your leaders and work on your Journey to Excellence goals.

    • Mark your calendars for Thursday, December 1st at 6:30 pm for the District Christmas Potluck and Gift Exchange. Bring a favorite holiday main dish and side/dessert to share. Lemonade will be provided. To participate in the ever-popular “Mad Santa” game, bring a wrapped present with a $10 limit. And watch out for Barbie.

    • Laura Farrell announced that she and James Phillips will be taking nominations for all kinds of adults to be recognized at the District Awards Banquet in the spring. The award category form that she passed out will be available on the District website. If you have someone to recognize and you don’t see a category that fits, let Laura or know. All the year’s Eagle Scouts will be recognized as well.

    • Several fliers went out to announce upcoming events. If you want your fundraiser or other announcement put in the unit mail boxes at Roundtable, please send your flier to Rod AND to webmasters Mark Askins: or Phil Layton:

    • Our District Planning Meeting is Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 9:00 am at St. Luke UMC. Every unit needs to send a representative. Bring your unit dates, your school calendars, your creative ideas, and your friends! We’re aiming to plan for 18 months out if possible. Child care can be available, but only if you pre-arrange.     • The District will offer an ILST (Introduction to Leadership Skills Training) for Scouts holding leadership positions. The training will be at Camp Reeves January 27-29, 2017. Chris Jordan:

    • The most up to date Eagle information is available on CD from Don McKenzie:

    • The District Committee will meet the last Thursday of every month at 6:30 pm at Valenti’s Italian Restaurant (3781 US-1 BUS, Vass) starting in January.

    • Starting in February, Roundtables will alternate sites to reach more parts of the District. Stay tuned for times and places.

    • The OA dedicated their new ceremony ring at Durant in honor of David Williamson in recognition of his many valuable years devoted to Scouting. Congratulations, David!

    • Shout out to Debbie D’Auria and all her helpers for an impressive JOTA event in October. Thanks to all who donated supplies for flood victims as well.

    • Merit Badge Mania Jan. 13-14 2017. Registration should be available if prerequisites are turned in by counselors by Nov. 10. Please sign up to teach a badge! Cost to Scout is $7 per 3 hour badge. Charlotte Johns at 910-318-2424 or

    • Merit Badge Counselors: Dogwood District is down by about half from how many we had before the new paperwork process went into effect. If you need details, see James If you need the form, see the District website and if you need the D76 course, contact David Williamson (

    • Membership All Call…please be sure that all the Scouts in your unit are registered at Council. We are looking to add 59 Scouts by the end of the year, and some of them may just need their paperwork processed. Chris Jordan:
